Blütenweiß und lieblich rot,

zärtlich streifend durch die Zeit,

wartet dort der Bruder Tod,

schickt dich in die Ewigkeit.

 

Noch genießt du jede Stunde,

Fröhlichkeit bestimmt dein Leben,

doch der Fremde dreht die Runde,

wird dir niemals Freiheit geben.

 

Wenn du liebst, dein Herz zerspringt,

steht er nah, ganz nah,

und du merkst die Zeit verrinnt,

ganz plötzlich ist er da.

 

Dann kannst du kämpfen oder flehen,

biete ihm dein ganzes Geld,

er wird nur lachend mit dir gehen,

fort von dieser Welt.

 

Und wenn dein Mädchen weinet Tränen, kniend schmerzlich vor dem Grab,

fühlt der Tod ihr starkes Sehnen,

bald vorbei ist auch ihr letzter Erdentag.
